Car Hire Murcia and touring Spain
The region of Murcia sits just
below Alicante, and the city of Murcia, resting just at the
northern tip of the province, is only a few miles from Alicante and
therefore well worth a visit in your hire car.
The city of Murcia itself is rich in history, culture and architecture. There are many fabulous buildings which which you can while away an hour or two. One of these is Murcia's fabulously decorated Casino, designed and built in 1852, and incorporating classical and modern elements.
The huge cathedral is another must-see building. Built on the site of the old Arabic mosque, the first stone was laid in the late 1300s, and the building displays Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque influences. A Murcia hire car will allow you to really get to see what's on offer.
The Episcopal Palace is also worth a look. The city's gastronomy is also a great draw for the tourist – make sure to try one of the delicious rice dishes or a “huertano” stew. Meat pies and the “zarangollo” sausage are also local specialities.

After you have exhausted the
delights of Murcia city, why not jump into your hire car and head
out into the province's “huerta” - its agricultural
landscape.
Most of this is centred around the river Segura and its valley. One must see is the town of Monteagudo, and its stunning castle. The town of Monteagudo is situated only five miles from the city of Murcia.
This ancient fortification was the place which the ancient Murcian Emirs made their summer residence. A very complicated building, there are lots of nooks and crannies to explore.
If you wish to venture further into the Murcian countryside, the visitor centre at La Luz is a great place to head for. Here you will find the main information facility for the En Valle National Park (described in greater details in the “National Parks” section).

The region of Murcia is, like its neighbours,
a very successful wine producing region, and in the towns of
Bullas, Yecla and Jumilla in particular you will find evidence of
this. The town of Moratalla is a centre for the production of olive
oil. If it's history you crave, however, head for the region's
second city, Cartagena. Make sure if you hire a car in Murcia, that
the boots big enough for all the wine!
Full of atmosphere, Cartagena contains many important Roman sites, with its restored Roman Theatre being of particular interest. And, if you've time, make a date to visit the stunning castle at Lorca, often called the Fortress of the Sun. These are just a few good reasons about why you get a car hire in Murcia
